  Six athletes from Odisha shine at Indian Grand Prix-1

Odisha athletes secured three first positions, three second positions and one third position in the Indian Grand Prix-1 which was organized by Karnataka Athletics Association, under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore on 30 April 2024.

Sprinter Animesh Kujur was most successful among Odisha competitors, winning both the mens 100m and 200m events. He clocked 10.51 seconds in 100m and 20.97 seconds in 200m. The other first position for Odisha was grabbed by Laxmipriya Kisan in womens 800m run with a time of 2:10.88.

 

Woman Olympian Srabani Nanda claimed one second position in 200m run, clocking 11.98 seconds. Lalu Prasad Bhoi also stood second in mens 100m run with a time of 10.64 seconds. Similarly, Ashok Dandasena finished second in mens 3000m steeplechase, clocking 9:39.50.

The lone third place was captured by Susmita Tigga in womens 3000m steeplechase event. She clocked 11:31.40. Barring Srabani, all five position winners belong to Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, Bhubaneswar.
