Deepak Raj Samal (Cuttack) won the men`s singles title in the 1st Inter-District and State Carrom Championship, which concluded at Barabati Stadium here today. Samal defeated Sushant Kumar Behera (Puri) 19-13, 25-17 in the final to pocket the top prize of Rs 10,000.

Suresh Chandra Behera (Khurda) beat Sehenawaz Khan 25-7, 0-25, 23-13 to finish third. Cuttack-A claimed the team championship and a cash prize of Rs 10,000, getting the better of Khurda 2-1 in the final.

Earlier in the semifinals, Cuttack-A blanked Keonjhar 3-0, while Khurda drubbed Cuttack B by identical margin. The title in the veteran category went to G Padmanav (Puri), who prevailed over Mayadhar Sahoo (Cuttack) 21-5, 21-8 in the summit clash.

Five-time national carrom champion Suhas Kambli of Maharashtra handed over the trophies at the closing function. The four-day championship, featuring 120 players from 20 districts and carrying a total prize fund of Rs 50,000 was organised by Cuttack District Carrom Association.
