Magnificent haul of seven wickets for 60 runs by Tukuna Sahpp and a majestic knock of 161 by Govind Poddar powered Odisha to a 222-run win over Baroda in their second and last league match of the All-India Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament at Chennai today.
Electing to bat, Odisha rode on Poddar’s century, his second in a row in the ongoing tournament, and a half-century each by openers Girija Rout, Pratik Das and captain Biplab Samantray to compile a massive total of 418.
Pratik and Girija provided a solid foundation, putting on 108 runs in the opening-wicket stand, while Poddar, who slammed 137 against Kerala in the previous match, consolidated the innings, stitching together 104 runs for the fourth wicket with Samantray.
In reply, Baroda were bowled out for 196. Part-time bowler Tukuna Sahoo bamboozled the Baroda batting line-up with his leg-spin bolwing. Left-arm spinner Dhiraj Singh was the other successful Odisha bowler, picking up two wickets for 58 runs. Poddar also shone in fielding, taking four catches.
