  KISS win successive PVR Murty Memorial Trophy

Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) trounced DAV Public School (CDA, Cuttack) in the final by 71 runs to retained the trophy in the 10th PVR Murty Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament, which concluded here at Bhubananand Odisha School Engineering (BOSE) ground today.

KISS all-rounder Ramachandra Majhi stole the show of the day, hitting a 51-ball 50 and picking up three wickets for 20 runs. He received a Kishan Vikash Patra worth Rs 31,000 as the player of the match and player of the tournament.

In keeping with the tradition, host Union Sporting Club invited a former Test cricketer to grace the closing function as chief guest. This time it was off-spinner Shivlal Yadav who handed over the trophy and other prizes. Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera, Union Sporting Club president Nandakishore Tiberwal, secretary Pradeep Chauhan were present on the occasion.

 

It may be recalled that Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Madan Lal, Ashok Malhotra, Arun Lal, Javagal Srinath, Akash Chopra, Surinder Khanna, Maninder Singh and Chetan Chauhan hade presented the trophy in the past nine editions.

The 10th edition witnessed a change in the tradition as the player of the tournament was given the Kishan Vikash Patra instead of a bike. Basketball player-turned-organiser Prasanta Kumar Nayak and international woman footballer Bishnupriya Mahanta were felicitated at the closing function.

Individual Prizes: Best batsman: Saswat Mohanty (DAV School), Best bowler: Prajwal Laha (DAV School), Best fielder: Amit Kumar Das (DAV School ), Best wicketkeeper: Susant Majhi (KISS).
