Haryana registered a 101-run win over Odisha on the second and last day in their Group A league match of the Kalpathi AGS Buchi Babu All-India Cricket Tournament at TI Murugappa in Chennai today. In reply to a competitive total of 292 by Haryana, Odisha folded up for 191.
Electing to bat, Haryana got off to a solid start with captain Rahul Dewan and Chaitanya Bishnoi compiling 101 runs for the opening wicket. After Bishnoi was dismissed by medium pacer Alok Sahoo for 57, Dewan added another 68 runs in the second-wicket stand with Sunny Singh. Dewan was the top scorer with a 149-ball 77.
After reaching a healthy 200 for two, Haryana lost their last eight wickets for 92 runs. Odisha spinners dominated the second half of the day, getting support from the pitch. Left-arm spinner Jayanta behera was most successful, bagging five wickets for 66 runs, while vice-captain Govind Poddar picked up a brace.
Chasing 293 for victory, Odisha lost both their openers with only 33 runs on the board. Poddar and Anurag Sarangi steadied the innings with an 83-run partnership for the third wickets. But thereafter, Odisha lost wickets in regular intervals to be all out in 64.3 overs. Poddar was the top scorer with 150-ball 71, while Harshal Patel was most successful bowler for Haryana, taking five wickets for 39 runs.
