Youngsters impress at roller skating camp
23 Aug 2015 BHUBANESWAR

Roller skating made a rare appearance in Bhubaneswar with the conduct of a coaching camp by Odisha Skating Academy (OSA) at Kalinga Stadium on August 22 and 23. More than 40 youngsters were taught the different skills and techniques of the sport by former national champion Karanam Gangadhar in the two-day camp.

OSA founder-cum-secretary Partha Srathi Jena described the camp as a modest venture to popularise roller skating in the state. ``The response and enthusiasm of the campers have spurred us to conduct more such camps as well as competitions in the future,`` he said.

Gangadhar, who is also a referee of Roller Skating Federation of India, seemed impressed with the performance of the campers, aged between four to 16 years. He identified Amit Patra, Deven Patnaik, Prateek Arnav, Pritish Aryan and Anuska Mohanty as the discoveries of the camp.

``These youngsters have the talent to become good skaters. They displayed good balance, pick-up and speed in the camp. They need regular practice and exposure to improve their standard,`` opined Gangadhar.
