  Junior National Baseball: Odisha boys, girls finish third

Odisha girls finished outright third, while their boys ended joint-third with Chandigarh in the 26th Junior National Baseball Championship, which was hosted by Baseball Association of Odisha (BAO) at Kalinga Stadium here from February 8 to 12. Delhi bagged a double, winning titles in both the categories.

State Vigilance Director Dr R P Sharma graced the closing function as chief guest and gave away the prizes. Odisha Olympic Association secretary Ashirbad Behera and industrialist Prabodh Mohanty were guests of honor.

 

Amateur Baseball Federation of India (ABFI) acting president Pankaj Lochan Mohanty presided over the function. ABFI Executive Director P C Bharwdaj, BAO secretary Sibananda Pradhan and Tournament Committee chairman Vijay Khadelwal were present on the occasion. Altogether 13 states joined the five-day championship, which was inaugurated by Home Department Special Secretary Lalit Das. Following are the results so far.

BOYS: Feb 9:
Telangana bt Bengal 14-4. Chhattisgarh bt Rajasthan 10-0. Chandigarh bt Jharkhand 7-3. Delhi bt Jammu-Kashmir 16-0. Andhra Pradesh bt Rajasthan 10-0. Odisha bt Maharashtra 9-6. Jammu-Kashmir bt Bihar 12-9. Feb 10: Maharashtra bt Utter Pradesh 13-3; Chandigarh bt Bengal 10-0; Telangana bt Jharkhand 11-7; Delhi bt Bihar 10-0; Chhattisgarh bt Andhra Pradesh 3-2; Jharkhand bt West Bengal 3-2. Feb 11 (Quarterfinals): Chandigarh bt Maharashtra 8-3. Chhattisgarh bt Jammu-Kashmir  13-0. Delhi bt Andhra Pradesh 15-1. Odisha bt Telangana 10-0. Feb 12: Semifinals: Chhattisgarh bt Chandigarh 6-3. Delhi bt Odisha 9-5. Third place: Odisha drew with Chandigarh 0-0. Final: Delhi beat Chhattisgarh 6-0.
Individual prizes: Best pitcher- Sakeel (Delhi); Best catcher- Suvam (Chhattisgarh); Best batter- Amendra (Odisha); Best fielder- Kuldeep (Delhi); Best all-rounder- Surender (Chhattisgarh).

GIRLS: Feb 9: Chhattisgarh bt Telangana 18-12. Delhi bt Bengal 10-0. Odisha bt Andhra Pradesh 11-1. Andhra Pradesh bt Jharkhand 10-0. Chhattisgarh bt Bengal 10-0. Odisha bt Rajasthan 10-0. Delhi bt Chhattisgarh 13-1. Feb 10: Chhattisgarh bt Andhra Pradesh 18-2; Chhattisgarh bt Telangana 8-0; Delhi bt Telangana 15-0. Feb 11: Semifinals: Chhattisgarh bt Odisha 8-5. Delhi bt Telangana 11-1. Third place: Odisha bt Telangana 13-3. Feb 12: Final: Delhi beat Chhattisgarh 12-1.
Individual prizes: Best pitcher- Ektta (Chhattisgarh); Best catcher- Annu (Odisha); Best batter- Neha (Delhi); Best fielder- Amanprit (Delhi); Best all-rounder- Kinjal (Chhattisgarh).
