	Kalinga Lancers crowned Hockey India League champions 26 Feb 2017 BHUBANESWAR
	Bhubaneswar-based Odisha franchise Kalinga Lancers won their maiden title in Hockey India League when they trounced Dabang Mumbai 4-1 in the final at Chandigarh Hockey Stadium in Chandigarh today. Leading from the from, Lancers’ German captain Moritz Fuerste capped the victory, converting two penalty corners in the 30th and 59th minutes after Aussie forward Glenn Turner drew first blood with a goal in the 18th minute. Dabang Mumbai, who earlier topped the league table with 35 points, seven ahead of second-placed Kalinga Lancers, pulled one back through Affan Yousuf in the 33rd minute.
	Moritz Fuerste and teammate Glenn Turner became the joint highest scorers of the tournament with 12 goals each. Earlier in the day, the Uttar Pradesh Wizards beat Delhi Waveriders 5-4 in a closely-fought encounter to take home the third-place. Kalinga Lancers, the champions of the fifth edition of India Hockey India League, received a prize money of Rs 2 crores 50 lakhs. First runners-up Dabang Mumbai pocketed Rs 1 crore 25 lakhs, whichle second runners-up Uttar Pradesh Wizards were awarded Rs 75 lakhs. The Fair Play Trophy was awarded to the Kalinga Lancers. Florian Fuchs of Dabang Mumbai won the Achiever Award for `Upholding The Spirit of Hockey’ and also received a prize money of Rs 10 lakhs. Three times Olympic gold medalist Moritz Fuerste and Glenn Turner of Kalinga Lancers were declared joint winners of the Dhruv Batra Maximum Goal Awards and were presented with prize money of Rs 20 lakhs. Harmanpreet Singh won the Ponty Chadha Upcoming Player of the Tournament Award and was presented with a prize money of Rs 20 lakhs. Florian Fuchs of Dabang Mumbai was declared the Most Valuable Player of Tournament and was awarded a prize money of Rs. 50 lakhs.
