Baroda rode on a half-century each by opener Aditya Waghmode and Deepak Hooda to beat Odisha by five wickets in their Group-A game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi today. This was the second defeat in three matches for Odisha, who earlier lost to Haryana by five wickets.
Chasing a challenging target of 282, Baroda romped home with 3.4 overs to spare. Waghmode hit an 82-ball 92 with the help of 13 boundaries, while Hooda remained unbeaten with 78, which came off 63 balls and included six hits to the fence and four over it. Dhiraj Singh was most successful Odisha bowler, taking two wickets for 51 runs.
Earlier, put into bat by Baroda captain Irfan Pathan, Odisha compiled a healthy total of 281 for seven. Captain Govind Poddar, who scored an unbeaten ton in the previous match against Assam, continued his fine form by becoming the top scorer for his side with an 86-ball 77 (5x4, 1x6). Abhishek Yadav (40), Anurag Sarangi (37), Subhranshu Senapati (35) and Sandeep Pattanaik (29) also chipped in with useful contributions.
