CS double crowns for Aryan and Ananya
02 Sep 2017 BHUBANESWAR

Odisha boys D Aryan Swamy and West Bengal girl Ananya Yadav bagged a double each by winning both the singles and doubles titles in the under-14 age group of the AITA-OTA U-12 & U-14 Championship Series (CS) Tennis Tournament, which was organised by Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) here at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex from August 28 to September 2, 2017.

Top seed Aryan won the singles title, defeating Gaurav SR (Tamil Nadu) in straight sets. In the doubles final, Aryan and his statemate Bighnesh Nanda got the better of Telangana  duo of Mohit Pasam and Sharan Kanugovi also in straight sets.

Ananya claimed the singles crown with a hard-fought win over Vaibhavi Saxena (Karnataka). She completed the doubled, winning the doubles final with Simran Nehe Ekka of Odisha as her partner. The singles title in under-12 boys’ and girls’ groups were captured by Mohith Charan Reddy (Telangana) and Shimreen Ahamed (West Bengal) respectively.

A total of 85 players from 11 states participated in the tournament, which was conducted by referee Jatin Batsya. Barring the double crown for Aryan Swamy, the overall performance of host state turned out to be disappointing. That no player from Odisha could reach the quarterfinals in girls’ u-12, u-14 and boys’ u-12 singles events was proof enough of the deteriorating standard.

RESULTS (All finals):
U-12 boys’ singles:
Mohith Charan Reddy (Telangana) bt Hrishikesh Ayer (Maharashtra) 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-2.
U-14 boys’ singles: D Aryan Swamy (Odisha) bt Gaurav SR (Tamil Nadu) 6-3, 6-0.
U-12 girls’ singles: Shimreen Ahamed (West Bengal ) bt Vaibhavi Saxena (Karnataka) 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.
U-14 girls’ singles: Ananya Yadav (West Bengal) bt Vaibhavi Saxena (Karnataka) 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.
U-14 boys’ doubles: Bighnesh Nanda-D Aryan Swamy (Odisha) bt Mohit Pasam-Sharan Kanugovi (Telangana) 7-5, 7-5.
