OCA to abide by Lodha Committee recommendations
24 Sep 2017 CUTTACK

After maintaining a defiant stand for months together, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) today agreed to implement the Lodha Committee recommendations and complete the election process of its office-bearers by November this year. This was announced by OCA Working Committee chairman Dhiren Palai after the council meeting of the apex state cricket body at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack earlier in the day.

``It was unanimously decided by the members that we will file an affidavit in the Supreme Court in a day or two stating that we abide by the recommendations of Lodha Committee. As per the Lodha Committee we will make few changes in the OCA constitution within few days,’’ said Palai.

However, Palai indicated that the term of office-bearers would be one year less. ``Earlier the OCA general election use to conduct in four years but as per the new guidelines it will be in three years,’’ he said. ``In future there will be one post each for president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer,’’ he added.

Observers of state cricket found this development as a sort of surrender by OCA, which almost became defunct following non-release of funds from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This year OCA not only failed to conduct its inter-district trournaments, but also expressed its inability to host Ranji Trophy and other BCCI matches.

But with BCCI allotting the India vs New Zealand T-20 match, scheduled to be held at the Barabati Stadium on November 20 this year, OCA had no other alternative but to carry out reforms as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Palai informed that the estimated budget for the upcoming T20 international match would be around Rs 4 crores. ``We hope to get Rs 2.59 crore from sale of tickets and Rs 1.37 crore from adevertisements. We expect to make a profit of around Rs 7 lakh which would be spent for development of infrastructure facility,’’ he stated.

Interestingly, former OCA secretary Asirbad Behera, who became ineligible for any post of the state body following Supreme Court directions, not only actively participated in the council meeting, but also controlled the proceeding. It was evident from the discussions that Behera would play the lead role in the staging of the forthcoming T20 match. But he requested the members present not to mention his name anywhere.

Besides chairman Palai, Working Committee convenor Rabi Shankar Pratihari and members Janardan Dash, Dulal Chandra Pradhan and Saroj Kumar Sahoo were present in the council meeting.
