Shreyansh Hota of Bolangir and Shruti Snehi of Cuttack won the titles in open and girls categories respectively in the Odisha State Under-7 Chess Championship, which was held at Gaurav Palace, Chahata Nagar here from July 29 to 31, 2017.

Shreyansh scored 6.5 points out of a possible seven, while Shruti logged five points from six rounds. Mahavir Patra (Khordha) and Sradha Mishra (Khordha) finished runner-up in open and girls sections respectively.

A total of 78 players, including 24 girls participated in this tournament, which was organised by Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA). Top five finishers from open and top two from girls’ categories qualified to represent Odisha in the National Under-7 Chess Championship to be held at Vijayawada, AP from Sept 3 to 11, 2017.

Incom Tax Assistant Commissioner Kishore Chandra Mohanty handed over the trophies in the closing function. AOCA president Sekhar Chandra Sahu and CDCA secretary Ranjan Mohanty were present on the occasion.
