Captain Raghunath Malla and Jyoti Ranjan Behera scored a century each to empower Odisha give a strong reply to a mammoth first-innings total of 600 for four declared by host Tamil Nadu in their four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Group-A match at TNCA Academy in Theni today. Odisha were 334 for three at stumps on the penultimate day with Malla going strong on 135 and Binit Mohanty giving him company on 19.

Resuming their first innings at the overnight score of 131 for two, Odisha added 203 runs in the day, losing only one wicket in the process. Jyoti Ranjan Behera was bowled after hitting a 203-ball 118 with the help of 17 boundaries. Skipper Malla faced 383 balls for his unbeaten knock, which was studded with 15 hits to the rope. Malla and Behera compiled 209 runs in their third-wicket stand.

The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten 229 (242b, 28x4, 2x6) by Pradosh Ranjan Paul and a captain’s knock of 176 (296b, 24x4) by Aditya Barooah. They were well supported with a half-century each by S Nidhish Rajagopal and R Sonu Yadav.
