  Senapati slams ton in drawn U-23 match vs MP

Middle-order batsman Subhranshu Senapati scored an unbeaten century to help Odisha draw their Col C K Nayudu Trophy Plate Group-B match against Madhya Pradesh at Holkar Stadium in Indore today. But host Madhya Pradesh gained three points from this match by virtue of taking a 226-run first-innings lead, while Odisha settled with one point.

Trailing by 226 runs in the first-innings, Odisha fought back with grit to lead by 219 runs, making 445 for eight in the second innings at the close of fourth and final day. Senapati slammed an unbeaten 162, which came off 357 balls and included 16 boundaries and one six. He was involved in a 101-run partnership with captain Devendra Kunwar, who made 59.

Openers Sandeep Pattanaik (45) and Rajesh Dhuper (46) gave the second innings a firm foundation, compiling 81 runs for the first wicket. Sarbeswar Mohanty was another successful Odisha batsman on the final day, hitting an entertaining 45 with the help of three fours and as many sixes.

Ealier put into bat by Madhya Pradesh captain Mukul Raghav, Odisha failed to muster a big total as none of their batsmen could score a half-century. Debasish Samantray was the top scorer with 32 runs and he compiled 50 runs for the second-wicket partnership with opener Rajesh Dhuper, who contributed a 93-ball 29.

After the fall of seventh wicket at 123, Jamala Bhanjan Mohapatra (24) and Subham Nayak (23) stitched together 41 runs in the eighth-wicket stand to enable Odisha compile a respectable total. Mohammad Arshad Khan was the most successful MP bowler, taking five wickets for 38 runs.

In reply, Madhya Pradesh rode on a century by Aryaman Birla and a half-century each by Ajay Rohera and Mohammad Arshad Khan to make a healthy total of 399. Birla did the bulk of scoring for the home team, hitting 153 with 22 fours and two sixes.

Off-spinner Subham Nayak was the most successful bowler for Odisha, bagging five wickets for 114 runs, while pacer Ashutosh Das picked up three for 64. Odisha will play their next match against Uttar Pradesh at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur from October 26 to 29.
