  State open badminton double crowns for Gyan, Ashis

Local shuttlers Gyan Chand and Ashis Kumar Sethi bagged double crowns in the 4th Nalini Kanta Mohanty Memorial StateOpen Badminton Tournament, which was organised by Amateur Badminton Club (ABC) here at East Coast Railway Indoor Stadium from October 12 to 15, 2017.

Gyan emerged champion in men’s doubles and mixed doubles events with Manas Ranjan Routray and Hoshana Toppo respectively as his partners. Ashis won the two titles in under-19 boys’ singles and doubles categories with Shiv Sundar Mahalik as his doubles partner.

K Murali Krishna of East Coast Railway and Krishnika Birok of Rourkela were crowned men’s and women’s singles champions respectively. The titles in under-17 and under-15 boys’ singles were pocketed by Prajesh Kumar Murmu and Amrit Mohanty respectively. Abinash Mohanty and Indrajeet Jena emerged under-17 boys’ doubles champion, while the veteran doubles title was captured by Biraja Prasad Kar and Trinath Dehury.

Around 350 shuttlers from across the state participated in 10 events of the tournament, which was inaugurated by Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev. Odisha Governor S C Jamir gave away the prizes and cash prizes, amouting to a total of Rs 2.5 lakh in the closing ceremony.

Rajnager MLA  Ansuman Mohanty, East Coast Railway General Manager Umesh Swain, Nalco CMD Tapan Chand, Angul Sukinda Railway MD Dillip Samantray, ABC president Pruthiv Ballav Pattnaik and secretary Chandi Prasad Das were present on the occasion.

K Murali Krishna bt Abhimanyu Bagarty 21-16, 21-17.
Women’s singles: Krishnika Birok bt Yashashree Samal 21-16, 13-21, 21-16.
Men’s doubles: Gyan Chand-Manas Ranjan Routray bt Ranjit Kumar Bantha-Sushant Kumar Rout 15-21, 21-17, 21-11.
Mixed doubles: Gyan Chand-Hoshana Toppo bt Ranjit Kumar Bantha-Krishnika Birok 21-14, 21-17.
U-19 boys’ singles: Ashis Kumar Sethi bt Prajesh Kumar Murmu 21-18, 21-15.
U-19 boys’ doubles: Ashis Kumar Sethi-Shiv Sundar Mahalik bt Sibashish Bishi-Soumaya Ranjan Panda  21-16, 18-21, 21-19.
U-17 boys’ singles: Prajesh Kumar Murmu bt Abinash Mohanty 21-14, 21-16.
U-17 boys’ doubles: Abinash Mohanty-Indrajeet Jena bt Abinash Samant-Amlana Keshari Garnaik 21-14, 21-17.
U-15 boys’ singles: Amrit Mohanty bt Abhijit Maharana 21-16, 21-10.
Veteran doubles: Biraja Prasad Kar-Trinath Dehury bt Amrut Ranjan Jena-Sanjay Kumar Patnaik 21-15, 21-11.
