Captain Govind Poddar’s fine allround performance went in vain as Odisha lost to Jharkhand by eight wickets in their fourth and last league match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy East Zone T20 League at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi today.

This was the second defeat for Odisha, who finished third in the five-team zonal league with eight points. Bengal emerged East Zone champions with four wins and full 16 points, while host Jharkhand finished runners-up with three wins and 12 points.

Opting to bat, Odisha were bowled out for a modest 123. Poddar stood tall amidst a batting debacle, hitting a 42-ball 64 with the help of five boundaries and four sixes. Monu Kumar was most successful bowler for Jharkhand, taking four wickets for 14 tuns. In reply, Jharkhand rode on a half-century by stumper Ishan Kishan and his 84-run partnership for the second wicket with Ishank Jaggi to overhaul the target with 20 balls to spare.
