Odisha bagged one gold, one silver and three bronze medals through Anshika Mohapatra, Chandaka Yuvraj, Ritesh Mohanty, Madhupriya Bai and Sai Swaroop Bebarta in the KAI Sub-junior National Karate Championship, which was hed at Talkatora Indoor Stadiium in New Delhi from April 20 to 22, 2018.
According to a press release Orissa State Karate-Do Association, Anshika won the gold medal in 10-year girls’ individual kata, while Yuvraj claimed the silver in 9-year boys’ individual kata. Ritesh and Sai secured one bronze each in 11-year boys individual kata and 10-year boys’ (-25kg) individual kumite. Madhupriya won the last bronze medal in 11-year (-35kg) girls individual kumite event on the concluding day.
Orissa State Karate-Do Association on April 27 announced names of 32 karatekas to represent the state in this National championship. But in the entry list of Karate Association of India 31 names were found from Odisha. Confusion did not end there. Names of Sanjeeta Sahoo and Divya Joti Bhoi in the OSKA list were missing in the KAI list, while name of Pratik Kumar Das in the KAI list was not there in the OSKA list.
