Chhetri hat-trick powers Bengaluru FC into SFs
13 Apr 2018 BHUBANESWAR

A brilliant hat-trick by captain Sunil Chhetri powered Indian Super League runners-up Bengaluru FC to a thumping 3-1 win over I-League outfit Neroca FC in the last quarter-final match of the inaugural Super Cup Football Tournament here at Kalinga Stadium today.

Displaying amazing skill and marksmanship, Chhetri scored his three goals in the 13th, 55th and 94th minutes to be adjudged the Man of the Match. He received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 from BJD Rajya Sabha Member Soumya Ranjan Patnaik.

Pritam Singh scored the solitary goal for Neroca FC in the 48th minute. Bengaluru FC will face Mohun Bagan in their semi-final clash on April 17. The first-semifinal will take place between Kingfisher East Bengal and FC Goa on April 16.

Bengaluru FC were rewarded for their consistent attacks in the 13th minute through a cross from the right flank from Udanta that was duly punched out by opposition goalkeeper Lalit Thapa but only to be pushed back into the net from a spectacular header from Sunil Chhetri.

Neroca FC struck back with an equalizer in the stoppage time, when a silly mistake from Gurpreet Singh of not collecting the ball properly, saw Neroca’s Pritam Singh make no mistakes in converting the moment to their favour.

Bengaluru FC regained the lead early in the second half when Chhetri netted his second goal with measured shot that left Neroca Thapa helpless. The Bengaluru FC completed his hat-trick, the first of the tournament, with an identical goal in the stoppage time.
