Puri boy Rudranarayan and Sundargarh girl Priyanka Routray won the open and girls title respectively in Odisha State U-15 Chess Championship, which was held at Sailabala Womens College, Cuttack from June 4 to 6, 2018. Both scored six points out of a possible seven.

Aditya Ranjan Samal, Shreyash Subham Patnaik and Harshit Ranjan Sahu finished second, third and fourth respectively in the open category, also with six points each. In the girls category, Ankita Sahu, P Sairupa and Shreya Smurti Mohanty occupied the second, third and fourth positions respectively with 5.5 points apiece.

Top four finishers in each category qualified to represent the State in the National U-15 Chess Championships, scheduled to be held at Kolkata from July 17 to 25, 2018. Altogether 169 players, including 54 girls participated in the three-day state championship, which was organised by Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA).

Odisha cricket star Biplab Samantray gave away the prizes in the presence of Sailabala Womens College Principal Chinamyee Mohapatra, CDCA president Asit Mukherjee, vice-president Santosh Prusty, secretary Ranjan Mohanty and coach Satya Ranjan Patnaik.
