  KISS, Balasore win State senior kho-kho titles

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) women and Balasore men won the titles in the 19th Odisha State Senior Kho-Kho Championship, which was held at Gopabandhu Science College, Athgarh, Cuttack from June 14 to 17, 2018. Puri women and Cuttack men finished third.

Arjun Singh (KISS) and Subhashree Singh were awarded as best male and female players respectively. Balasore duo Jagannath Murmu and Tapan Singh bagged the prizes as best runner and best chaser respectively in men’s category. In women’s section, the prizes for best runner and best chaser were pocketed by Mandakini Majhi (KISS) and Sabnam Khatun (Balasore) respectively.

 

Alia Sabar (Gajapati), T Balaram Das (Cuttack) and Suresh Sethy (Puri) were adjudged best newcomers in men’s group. In the womens group, T Puja (Ganjam), Rosalin Gochhi (Cuttack) and Nitya Soren (Sundargarh) were named as best newcomers.

As many as 18 men and 15 women teams from 18 districts participated in the four-day championship that featured a total of 58 matches. Athgarh NAC chairman Suchitra Sahu attended the closing ceremony as chief guest.

Odisha Kho Kho Association secretary Pradyumna Mishra, Athgarh Kho Kho Association president Laxmi Narayan Bhanja and secretary Subhasish Sahu were present on the occasion.
