Odisha posted a confidence-boosting win in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group-B League, defeating Saurashtra by 52 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here today. This was the second win for Odisha, who now have 10 points from seven matches.
Opting to bat against star-studded Saurashtra, Odisha rode on a half-century by Biplab Samantaray and notable contributions from three other middle-order batsmen to compile a challenging total of 197. In reply, Saurashtra were bowled out for 145.
Samantaray was the top scorer for Odisha with a 79-ball 62, which was his 11th List-A career half-century and included three fours and two sixes. Captain Govinda Poddar also played important role in the Odisha win, scoring 33 runs and taking a career-best haul of three wickets for 33 runs. Odisha will play their eighth and last league match against Hyderabad at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on October 6.
