A sparkling knock of 93 by captain Govinda Poddar went in vain as Odisha went down fighting to Hyderabad by one wicket in their last Elite Group-B league match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Limited Overs Cricket Tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium here today.
This was the fifth defeat for Odisha, who finished seventh in the nine-team Group-B with 10 points from eight matches. Of their other three matches, they won two and shared points against Uttar Pradesh.
Electing to bat against Hyderabad, Odisha compiled a competitive total of 247 for eight. Besides Poddar, who hit 10 fours and two sixes in his 108-ball knock, Subhranshu Senapati, Abhishek Raut and Biplab Samantaray made notable contributions with the bat. C V Milind was most successful Hyderabad bowler, bagging six wickets for 43 runs.
In reply, Hyderabad rode on a half-century by captain Akshath Reddy and Tanmay Agarwal to overhaul the target with four balls to spare. Papu Roy was most successful Odisha bowler with three wickets for 38 runs, while Suryakant Pradhan chipped in with two for 52.
