Olly, the cute Olive Ridley turtle, emerged in style as the official mascot of the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018, riding through the waves of the Bay of Bengal to reach the shores of Puri today.

With less than two months left for the start of the State’s largest sporting event at the renovated Kalinga Stadium, the grand entry Olly multiplied the heart-beats for hockey. Odisha Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera graced Mascot Launching event in the presence of State Sports and Tourism Secretary Vishal Dev.

In fact, Olly made a welcome return after winning millions of hearts as the mascot of 22nd Asian Athletics Championships and the Men’s Hockey World League Finals at Kalinga Stadium last year. “I am extremely delighted to welcome Olly back in Odisha. He plays a significant part in symbolizing the values of our state and therefore holds utmost importance to us,’’ said Dev.

Olly the Mascot represents the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles whose biggest home is at the Gahirmatha Beach in Odisha. Beaches of Odisha are a prime nesting site for these endangered species. Through this mascot, the Government plans to contribute towards raising awareness about preserving the habitat of these beautiful creatures that co-exist with us on this planet.
