  Asian Para Games: Silver each for Pradhan brothers

Odisha blind chess players Prachurya Pradhan and his younger brother Soundarya Pradhan won one silver medal each in the 3rd Asian Para Games, which was held at Cempaka Putih Sports Hall in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 6 to 13, 2018.

Prachurya secured his silver in men’s team rapid VI-B1 category with Mohammed Salih Pay Kandiyil as his partner. The duo finished second with 8.5 points. Prachurya also took part in men’s individual standar VI-B1 category, but only to finish sixth with 3.5 points out of a possible seven. He won three games, lost three and drew one.

Soundarya claimed silver in men’s team rapid VI-B2/B3 event with Kishan Gangolli and Ashwinbhai Makwana as other two members of the team. The Indian team finished second with 9.5 points.

 

In men’s individual standard VI-B2/B3 category, Soundarya finished 12th with 2.5 points out of a possible seven. He won two games, lost four and drew one.

Indian blind chess players bagged a total of nine medals, which included two gold, five silver and two bronze. The gold medals were captured by Kishan Gangoli in men’s individual rapid VI-B2/B3 event and Jennitha Anto Kanickai in women’s individual rapid P1 category.
