Odisha started their campaign in C K Nayudu Trophy U-23 Tournament with a 288-run defeat at the hands of Haryana on the penultimate day of their four-day Elite Group-C match here at Ravenshaw University Ground today. The win gave Haryana six points, while Odisha drew blank.

Chasing a daunting target of 355, host Odisha were bowled out for 66 in the second innings. Mohit Rathee and Sumit Kumar played instrumental roles in the Haryana win, taking match haul of nine wickets for 39 runs and scoring a century in the second innings.

Put into bat by Odisha captain Debasish Samantray, Haryana made a competitive total of 269 and then dismissed the home team for 136 in the first innings. In the second innings, Haryana fought back from 55 for six to make 221. Ayaskant Sahu proved to be most successful performer for Odisha, taking eight wickets in the match.

The match was an interesting one as produced two hat-tricks. Ashish Rai of Odisha did it first by scalping Aman Kumar, Amit Rana and Mohit Rathee in successive balls on the opening day. Rathee achieved the other hat-trick today by dismissing Odisha batsmen Raghunath Malla, Soubhagya Ranjan Mishra and Gyana Jyoti Ray in three successive deliveries. Ayaskant Sahu missed what would have been the third hat-trick of the match despite taking three wickets in his first over of Haryana’s second innings.
