  BJEMS emerge Bhubaneswar school cricket champs

Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School (BJEMS) emerged champions in the 17th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Cricket Tournament, defeating Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) by 61 runs in the final at BJB College Ground here today.

Bibhanshu Sekhar Ray scored a century in the final to be adjudged both the Player of the Final match and Player of the Tournament. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 8,000 and the runners-up Rs 6,000.

 

KISS players Nabidatya Mallick and Mahendra Madhi pocketed the prizes as best batsman and best fielder respectively. The prizes for best bowler and best wicket-keeper were claimed by Anshuman Das (St Xaviers HS, Khandagiri) and Bidyadhar Behera (BJEMS) respectively. Lenin Mohanty of KIIT was presented with the prize as best emerging player.

The tournament, featuring 18 teams, was organised by Veterans Cricket Association of Odisha (VCAO). BJB College Principal Prasanna Kumar Mohanty handed over the trophy at the closing ceremony. VCAO president Ashokananda Jena, vice-presidents Balabhadra Patnaik, Pramod Patnaik and secretary Biren Kumar Das were present on the occasion.

Jan 18 (Match-1):
Guru Nanak Public School 130/7 in 25 overs (Anurag Mallick 37; Soumya Ranjan 2/22) beat Ruchika High School 88/10 (G Dilesh 5/29) by 42 runs. PoM: G Dilesh.

Jan 18 (Match-2): Vivekananda Sikhya Kendra 141/9 in 25 overs (Manas Digal 2/19) beat Loyola Odia High School 142/5 (Pritam Digal 32) by 5 wkts. PoM: Pritam Digal.

Jan 19 (Match-3): Mother’s Public School 171/10 in 22 overs (Niraj Gupta 16) beat St Joseph High School 116/10 in 22 overs (Ahaan Bardhan 24; Niraj Gupta 5/25) by 55 runs. PoM: Niraj Gupta.

Jan 19 (Match-4): Prabhujee English Medium School 153/3 in 22 overs (Atmik Aditya Das 67) beat Venkateswar English Medium School, Chandrasekharpur 105/10 in 20 overs (Om Mishra 27, Srujan Kirti 3/10) by 48 runs. PoM: Atmik Aditya Das.
