Jr Women Natl Hockey: Hockey Odisha lose in QFs
BHUBANESWAR,07 Feb 2019 (Team Orisports)

Hockey Odisha went out of bronze-medal contention in the 9th Junior Women National Hockey Championship as they lost to Hockey Mizoram 0-3 in their quarterfinal match at Kollam, Kerala today. Hockey Odisha reached the last-eight stage, finishing second in the Pool D with seven points.

Hockey Odisha won two matches, drew one and lost one at the league stage. In their fourth and last league match, they crushed Delhi Hockey 6-1. Neha Lakra was instrumental in Hockey Odisha win as she scored three field goals to register second hat-trick in the tournament. Hockey Odisha earlier hammered Hockey Bihar 9-0, drew with Hockey Karnataka 2-2 and lost to Uttar Pradesh Hockey 0-2.

Hockey Karnataka also garnered seven points from four games in Pool D, winning two games, drawing one and losing one. But they missed out on a quarterfinal berth, finishing third in the pool on goal difference.

But Hockey Gangpur-Odisha crashed out from the league stage of the championship, finishing third in Pool-C with six points from four games. They, of course, ended their campaign with a thumping 7-3 win over Hockey Andhra Pradesh.

But that was not enough to carry them to the last-eight stage. In their earlier three matches, Hockey Gangpur Odisha beat Hockey Himachal 2-0 but lost to Hockey Mizoram 0-2 and Hockey Maharashtra 1-3.
