Hosts Odisha registered a hat-trick of wins when they trounced Assam by seven wickets in their fifth Group-D match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Senior Men T20 Tournament at DRIEKS Ground, Tangi, near here today. With three wins in a row, Odisha have bounced back into the competition after starting with two defeats.

Spinner Pappu Roy and the top four batsman put up notable performances against Assam. Roy bagged four wickets for 21 runs as Odisha, who chose to bowl after winning the toss, restricted Assam to 142 for nine. The hosts then overhauled the target in 16.5 overs, losing only three wickets in the process.

Biplab Samantaray became the top scorer with a 26-ball knock of 49, which included five boundaries and three sixes. He put on 80 runs for the third-wicket stand with stand-in captain Anurag Sarangi, who hit an unbeaten 43 of 36 balls.

Sandeep Pattanaik and Rajesh Dhuper gave a good start, compiling 46 runs for the opening wicket. Dhuper and Pattanaik contributed 21 and 27 runs respectively. Odisha will next meet Karnataka at Barabati Stadium tomorrow.
