  Odisha lifters Desti, Soren win KIYG gold medals

Weightlifters have made Odisha proud, bagging two gold and two silver medals so far in the 2nd Khelo India Youth Games, which is being held at Pune, Maharashtra from January 9. As many as 13 weightlifters are representing Odisha in this Games.

The two gold medals were captured by Bhaktaram Desti (Municipal Barracks High School, Berhampur) in under-17 boys 49kg class and Sneha Soren (Mayurbhanj) in under-21 girls 49kg category.

Trainee of Government Sports Hostel, Berhampur, Desti also improved his own National record in clean & jerk from 104kg 105kg. In snatch he lifted 81kg and in total 186kg.

 

Sneha lifter 68kg in snatch, 89kg clean & jerk for total of 157kg. Muna Nayak captured one silver in under-21 boys 55kg class with a total lift of 230kg. He lifted 102kg in snatch and 128kg in clean and jerk.

Former trainee of Berhampur Sports Hostel, Muna is now honing his skills at Army Sports Inistitute, Pune. Debaki Khilla claimed the other silver medal in under-17 girls 64kg class with total lift of 147kg. She lifted 64kg in snatch and 83kg in clean & jerk.
