  Junior Girls NFC: Odisha march into quarters

Riding on a 7-goal blitzkrieg by Jyoti Kumari, Odisha pulverised Pondicherry 13-0 in their second and last Group-E league match to march into quarterfinals of Hero Junior Girls National Football Championship at Kolhapur, Maharashtra today.

Earlier on 21st April, Odisha came from behind to beat Chhattisgarh 3-1 in their first Grou-E match at Rajarshi Shahu Stadium in Kolhapur. Football Association of Odisha (FAO) has sent a 20-member state team for this championship, which is scheduled to conclude on 1st May, 2019. Sangeeta Das is leading the team with Suraj Thappa and Sultana Parween as coach and manager respectively.

This is the fifth edition of tournament and will serve as a platform for scouting talent for next year`s U-17 Women World Cup. The tournament will see a total of 27 teams take part across eight groups with the winner from each group moving into the quarterfinals. The first three editions were won by Manipur and the previous one, which was held in Cuttack, saw Tamil Nadu lift the trophy.

April 21:
Odisha (Manisha Naik 24’, Jyoti Kumari 72’, Barsha Mahakud 80’) beat Chhattisgarh (Laxmi Podiyami 23’) 3-1.
April 23: Odisha (Subhasmita Subhadarsini Das 11’, Jyoti Kumari 24’, 30’, 45’, 45+2’, 45+3’, 65’, 69’’; Malati Munda 48’, Manisha Naik 20, 52’, 73’; Salge Majhi 58’) beat Pondicherry 13-0.
