  Inter-Varsity Kickboxing: Utkal win 3 medals

Utkal University bagged one gold and two bronze medals in tatami point-fighting category of the All-India Inter-University Kick-Boxing Tournament, which was organised by Andhra University, under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities at Visakhapatnam from March 8 to 11, 2019.

Kirtirani Sahoo won the gold medal in womens below 70kg weight class, defeating Shruti Singh of Andhra University in the final. Jagannath Das and Aditya Narayan Lenka claimed the two bronze medals in mens below 69kg and 74kg category respectively after losing to opponents from Rohtak University in the semifinals.

Utkal University, with the cooperation of Odisha Amateur Kickboxing Association (OAKA), fielded an eight-member squad for the first time in the All-India Inter-University Kickboxing Tournament. The squad featured four women and as many men.

Other five member of the squad were: Madhumita Sahoo, Namrata Nanda, Sujata Sahoo (all women); Santosh Kumar Rout and Abinash Das (both men). The squad was accompanied by Prabir Kumar Mohanty and Mihir Kumar Sahoo as manager and coach respectively.

Utkal University Sports Council Director Prof Kabir Mohan Sethi, Physical Education Officer Ambika Prasad Ray, Pramod Kumar Nayak and OAKA president Kartik Chandra Dakua congratulated the medals winners of the squad.
