  Hero Super Cup: Arrows eliminate Kerala Blasters

Indian Arrows cruise to a 2-0 win over Kerala Blasters FC in the second qualifying match of the Hero Super Cup Football Tournament here at the Kalinga Stadium today.  Arrows captain Amarjit Kiyam struck on the 39th minute to put his team in the lead and then converted a penalty in the second half to seal the result.

The loss marks the end of a disappointing season for Kerala, who crashed out of the tournament. The Arrows move on to the Round of 16 of the competition and will next face FC Goa on March 30. Arrows goalkeepers Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, who effected several good saves, was adjudged the Hero of the Match.

 

Meanwhile, Minerva Punjab FC failed to turn up for their Hero Super Cup Qualifier against FC Pune City earlier in the day. The match did not kick-off as Minerva Punjab FC did not report till scheduled kick-off time. According to AIFF release, the matter will be dealt accordingly as per the regulations of the tournament.

Football Association of Odisha (FAO) and Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha are jointly hosting the Hero Super Cup for the second time, under the auspices of All India Football Federation. The tournament would feature a total of 20 teams and 19 matches.

The 19 matches would comprise four qualifiers and 15 knock-out ones. The qualifiers are meant for teams, who finished seventh to 10th in I-League and Indian Super League. The knock-out matches would be played among top six teams I-League, India Super League and winners of the four qualifiers from March 29 to April 13.
