April 3: Avijit Paul will be functioning as the general secretary in-charge of Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) till next election, which is due in the year 2020. This was decided in the council meeting of the apex sports body of the state, held at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today.

The post of OOA general secretary was lying vacant after the demise of MA Alam on 25th March 2019. After thorough discussion in council meeting, it was decided that Avijit Paul, one of two joint-secretaries of the association will be the in-charge of general secretary post for the rest of the four-year term.

The last elections of OOA was held in September 2016. Paul is also functioning as a joint-secretary of Football Association of Odisha. In the OOA council meeting, president Samir Dey, vice-presidents Kamalakanta Pandey, Pratap Satpathy, Jagmohan Patnaik, Kishore Biswal; joint-secretary Manoranjan Mohanty, treasurer Adhip Das were present along with council members Binod Bas, Anil Bohidar, Durga Madhab Naik, Dhiren Palai and Birendra Behera.
