  Hockey: Indian women triumph in Olympic Test Event

Indian women hockey team won the Olympic Test Event, edging out hosts Japan 2-1 in the hard-fought final at Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan today. Led by Rani Rampal, Indian eves remained unbeaten in their four matches, winning two and drawing two.

Odisha mid-fielder Lilima Minz achieved a milestone in four-nation tournament as she completed her 150th international cap in the title clash. She was also given the opportunity to lead the Indian team in this game.

 

Another Odisha player to represent the 18-member India team was defender Deep Gracce Ekka. Incidentally, India started their campaign with a 2-1 win against Japan. They drew their remaing two league matches against Australia and China to qualify for the final.

RESULTS:
August 17:
India (Gurjit Kaur 9-PC, 35-PC) beat Japan (Aki Mitsuhashi 16-FG) 2-1.
August 18: India (Vandana Kataria 36-FG, Gurjit Kaur 59-PC) drew with Australia (Kaitlin Nobbs 14-PS, Grace Stewart 43-FG) 2-2.
August 20: India drew with China 0-0.
August 21 (Final): India (Navjot Kaur 11-FG, Lalremsiami 33-PC) beat Japan (Minami Shimizu 12-FG) 2-1.
