  Hockey: Indian men win all 5 games in Belgium

Indian mens hockey team concluded their tour of Belgium on a successful note, winning all of their five matches, including the last one against Belgium 5-1 in Anrwerp today. Out of the earlier four matches, World No 5 India won two each against World No 2 Belgium and World No 8 Spain.

The 20-member Indian team featured two players from Odisha _ Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas. The team was led by Manpreet Singh with Harmanpreet Singh as his deputy. Star striker Mandeep Singh completed his 150th international caps in the match against Belgium on October 1.

 

Lalit Kumar Upadhyay made a comeback to the Indian team after FIH World Cup, held last year in Bhubaneswar. Rupinder Pal Singh, who missed out on the Olympic Test Event, also made a return to the side. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh joined the side after being rested for the Olympic Test Event.

September 28: India (Manpreet Singh 24’, Harmanpreet Singh 28’, 32’, Nilakanta Sharma 39’, Mandeep Singh 56’, Rupinder Pal Singh 59’) beat Spain (Pau Quemada 29’) 6-1.
September 29: India (Akashdeep Singh 5’, SV Sunil 20’, Ramandeep Singh 35’, Harmanpreet Singh 41’, 51’) beat Spain (Iglesias Alvaro 3’) 5-1.
October 1: India (Amit Rohidas 10, Simranjit Singh 52’) beat Belgium (Felix Denayer 36’) 2-1.
October 3: India (Simranjeet Singh 7’, Lalit Upadhyay 36’, Vivek Sagar Prasad 37’, Harmanpreet Singh 41’, Ramandeep Singh 43’) beat Belgium (Alexander Hendrickx) 5-1.
