Host Odisha trounced Tripura by 79 runs on the last day of their three-day match of the East Zone Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 Cricket Tournament at Bidanasi Ground here today. This was the second straight win for Odisha, who earlier beat Bihar in their opening match.
Put into bat by Tripura captain Nabaraun Chakraborty, Odisha rode on a half-century each by stumper-opener Aashirwad Swain (83) and Subham Naik (59) to make a respectable total of 219. In reply, Tripura were bowled out for 112 with Odisha captain Shresth Singh emerging as the most successful bowler, taking four wickets for 28 runs.
Odisha then declared their second innings at 85 for three with Aashirwad Swain remaining unbeaten on 37. Chasing 193 for victory, Tripura folded up for 113 in their second innings.
Among successful Odisha bowlers, Ansuman Bej and Shresth Singh scalped four and three wickets respectively in the second innings. Besides his impressive batting, Aashirwad Swain held three catches and effected one stumping in this match.
