Odisha came from behind to crush Nagaland by nine wickets on the penultimate day of their ninth and last Plate-Group match of the Col C K Nayudu Trophy U-23 Tournament at Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima today. The win fetched Odisha six points.
Odisha finished third in the Plate Group with 46 points from nine matches. They won seven and lost two. Pondicherry emerged group toppers with 51 points and qualified for the quarterfinals.
Pace bowler Preet Kanwar Singh Chohan and opening batsmen Amrit Khatua and Binit Mohanty made impressive contributions for the Odisha win. Chohan bagged eight wickets in the match, including five in the first innings.
Khatua scored half-century in both the innings (66 and 75 not out), while Mohanty slammed 66 in the second innings. Put into bat by Odisha captain Sourav Gouda, Nagaland made a respectable total of 193 and then bundled out Odisha for 138.
However, after conceding a first-innings lead of 55 runs, Odisha fought back to dismiss the home team for 127. Chasing 183 for victory, Odisha romped home comfortably, thanks to a 127-run partnership for the opening wicket between Khatua and Mohanty.
