Puri teenager Jagadish Barik made Odisha proud by winning one gold and one silver medal in artistic gymnastics of the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games, which is being held in Guwahati, Assam from 10 January, 2020.

Competing in U-17 boys group, Barik won the gold in vaulting table event with a score of 12.00 at the Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur on January 10. He followed it with the silver in horizontal bars, scoring 11.45.

Barik took up the sport back in 2016. He has trained under two coaches so far. Pradeep Sahoo taught him the basics, and after that, he honed his skills under SAI chief coach Ashok Kumar Mishra.

Biswajit Behera also represented Odisha in the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games. Both Barik and Behera are students of Radhaballav Mahavidyalaya in Puri.
