  Football: Odisha Women League gets Govt support

With Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government Odisha, extending whole-hearted support, the Odisha Women League (OWL) in Football is likely to be a successful event and boost the sport for women in the state. The OWL-2021 will be organised by Football Association of Odisha (FAO) in association with DSYS in Bhubaneswar from 28 February to 27 March, 2021.

The jersey launching ceremony of the OWL was held today at Kalinga Stadium Bhubaneswar in the presence of DSYS Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, Under-Secretary Sailendra Kumar Jena, along with and FAO Secretary Asirbad Behera and joint-secretary Avijit Paul. Captains of all the six teams were also present on the occasion.

 

The Odisha Woment League will be played in a double-header basis and matches will be played at Kalinga Stadium and Capital High School Ground, Bhubaneswar. A total of 30 matches will be played in this League and the champion team will qualify to participate in the ensuing Indian Women League (IWL) to be conducted by AIFF later this year.

The six teams in the fray are: defending champions East Coast Railway, SAI Training Centre, Odisha Sports Hostel, Odisha Police, Rising Students and Odisha Government Press.

The six teams will be led by Eva Panna (SAI), Bannya Kabiraj (Odisha Sports Hostel), Manisha Panna (East Coast Railway), Karishma Oram (Odisha Police), Satyabati Khadia (Rising Students) and Sasmita Parida (OGP).
