  OWCL: Purple, Violet make winning start

Odisha Purple and Odisha Violet won the first two matches of the MGM Odisha Women T20 Cricket League (OWCL) at KIIT Cricket Ground in Bhubaneswar today. Purple rode on knocks of 55 and 45 by Sarita Meher and captain Madhusmita Behera respectively to beat Odisha Red by 57 runs in the opening match. Madhusmita was named the woman of the match.

Opting to bat, Odisha Purple mustered a competitive total of 122 for four and then bowled out Odisha Red for 65. Among Purple bowlers, D Janaki Reddy was most successful, bagging three wickets for six runs. She was well supported by Subhra Nirjharini Swain and Banalata Mallick with two wickets apiece.

Rasmita Chinhara scored a fina half-century to guide Odisha Violet to a five-win over Odisha Green, via DL Method in the second match of the day. Chasing a revised target of 81 in 12 overs, Odisha Green could make 75 for six. The innings of the Green was reduced 12 overs due to floodlight failure.

Earlier, put into bat by Green captain Rasanara Parwin, Violet compiled 119 for two, thanks a 52-ball 51 by Rasmita. She pocketed a prize of Rs 2,000 as the woman of the match. Kalpana Nayak also put up notable performance for the Violet, capturing three wickets.

The tournament was inaugurated by Odisha Cricket (OCA) Association president Pankaj Lochan Mohanty in the presence of OCA treasurer Bikash Pradhan, CEO Subrat Behera and KIIT University Sports Director Dr Gaganendu Dash.
