  Visually impaired women cricketers win T20 series

Visually impaired women cricketers of Odisha continued their winning streak by defeating Karnataka 2-1 in a three-match T20 bilateral series at Altore Ground in Bangalore yesterday. This was informed today by Md Jafar Iqbal, president of Cricket Association for the Visually Impaired, Odisha.

After losing the opening match by eight wickets on October 13, Odisha bounced back to win the last two matches next day by 20 and two runs respectively. Jhili Birua in B3, Rachana Jena in B2 and Varsha of Karnataka in B1 catagory were declared player of the series. It is noteworthy to mention that Odisha visually impaired women cricket team has not lost a tournament since 2018.

Before playing the bilateral series, the 16-member Odisha team underwent a coaching camp at Hi-Tech Medical College Ground in Bhubaneswar from October 5 to 10. The coaching camp and the Bengaluru tour of the Odisha team were sponsored by Hi-Tech Group and Views India.

ODISHA VISUALLY IMPAIRED WOMEN CRICKET TEAM: Mamina Nayak, Jamunarani Tudu, Padmini Tudu, Chhita Marandi, Kausalya Pradhan, Lina Swain (Captain), Basanti Hansda (Vice-captain), Sulochana Sing (WK) Rachana Jena, Patani Sing, Parbati Tudu, Jhili Birua, Phula Soren, Binapani Sahoo. Coach: Debashish Jena, Manager: Gita Panda, Mentor: Md Jafar Iqbal.

RESULTS:

October 13 (Match 1): Odisha 98/1 in 10 overs (Basanti Hansda 26, Padmini Tudu 26, Jhili Birua 22) lost to Karnataka 99/2 in 9.2 overs (???) by 8 wickets.

October 14 (Match 2): Odisha 89/0 in 10 overs (Rachana Jena 36*, Jhili Birua 30*) beat Karnataka 69/5 in 10 (???) by 20 runs. Player of the Match: Jhili Birua.

October 14 (Match 3): Odisha 74/5 in 8 overs (Jhili Birua 21) beat Karnataka 72/? in 8 overs (Parbati Tudu 2 wkts) by 2 runs. PoM: Parbati Tudu.
