  Smaraki wins State Women chess title 9th time

Smaraki Mohanty retained the title in the Odisha State Women Chess Championship which concluded at Raja Madhusudan Dev Degree College, Patia, Bhubaneswar today. She secured 5.5 points out of a possible six to bag the title for the seventh time in a row and ninth time overall.

Yashita Rout finished runner-up, while Jayalakshmi Sahoo and Adyasha Pattnaik secured the third and fourth position respectively. The top four finishers qualified to represent Odisha in the 48th National Women Chess Championship, scheduled to be held in Kolhapur, Maharashtra from 26 December 2022 to 5 January 2023.


A total of 30 players from 11 districts participated in the two-day State championship, which was jointly organised by Khordha District Chess Association (KDCA) and Master Chess Foundation (MCF), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA).

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Odisha Convenor Adisha Mohanty was the chief guest of the prize-distribution ceremony. RMDD College Principal Prasanta Rout, AOCA Secretary Debabrata Bhatta and KDCA Secretary Subhasis Patnaik were present on the occasion.

Anishka Pandey, Khordha (4), 7. Diptimayee Sahoo, Khordha (4), 8. Arushi Srichandan, Khordha (4), 9. Jyotika Sahoo, Cuttack (4), 10. Nainika Sahoo, Bargarh (4).
