  Paramount win PM Memorial U-16 Cricket Tournament

Paramount Sporting emerged champions in the 2nd Prasant Mohapatra Memorial U-16 Cricket Tournament, defeating Pragati Sporting by 28 runs in the all-Bhubaneswar final at MCC Ground in Bhubaneswar today. Paramount bowler Durga P Mallick won the Player of the Match award, taking three wickets for 15 runs.

Eminent Odisha cricketers Basant Mohanty, Sanjay Satpathy, Gobinda Poddar, Gurjit Singh Chouhan, Pradosh Mohanty and Saramjit Singh handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing ceremony. OCA panel umpire Nirmal Mishra was felicitated on the occasion.

Earlier in the semifinals, Pragati Sporting beat host Mukteswar Cricket Club by 178 runs while Paramount Sporting got the better of emphatic win over Rising Students Club, Cuttack 158 runs.

Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) organised the tournament in the memory of former Odisha cricketer and BCCI Match Referee Prasant Mohapatra. Altogether 14 teams from twin city Cuttack and Bhubaneswar participated in the tournament, which was inaugurated by former Bhubaneswar Mayor Mihir Mohanty.

 

Eminent Odisha cricketers Gobinda Poddar, P Jayachandra, Sanjay Satpathy and Anurag Sarangi; Bhubaneswar Athletic Association Secretary SR Parija, Mukteswar Club Vice-Presidents Naba Ranjan Patnaik and Gurjeet Singh Chouhan, Secretary-in-Charge Ajit Biswal and Treasurer Goura Prasad Nanda were present at the opening ceremony.

INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS: Man of the Tournament: Ashim Barad (Pragati Sporting). Best Batter: Biswajit Pradhan (BBCA). Best Bowler: Sk Naqib Sarber (Paramount Sporting). Best Wicket-keeper: Ashnil Routray (BBCA). Emerging Player: Abhilash Kanungo (MCC).
