  Barabati buzzing for cricket carnival
16 Nov 2008

Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) has used the top gear for the successful staging of the fifth one-dayer between India and England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on November 26. The historic stadium appeared to be a beehive of activity on Nov 16 with hundreds of workers and officials staying extreemely busy in different jobs, including construction of new stands, interior designing and media liasoning. The ensuing ODI will be the 15th of its kind at the Barabati and the fourth between India and England. Of the past three, England have won two and India the remaining one. The fifth ODI being a day-night match, host Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) is working with added enthusiasm to make the event a spectacular show. ``We have made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the match,`` OCA secretary Asirbad said at a crowded media conference here. According to the arrangements, 65 rooms have been booked at Hotel Mayfair Lagoon in Bhubaneswar for accommodation of both the teams and officials. Teams will arrive in Bhubaneswar on November 24. Luxury buses will be carrying the teams to Cuttack for net practice and the match. The stadium is being renovated to make it one of the best cricket venues of the world. ``Around 40 per cent work of the Rs 56 crore renovation plan has already been completed. The entire project will be finished by end of 2009,`` Behera stated. Two state-of-the-art players` dressing rooms, a new pavillion, a corporate stand, OCA administrative building, a media conference hall and a part of the new press box would be used on the occasion of the ODI. With the addition of around 1,000 seats, the capacity of the stadium has gone up to 34,000. Out of a total of 22,850 tickets, 14,455 will be sold to the public, while the rest will be reserved for BCCI sponsors, members and affiliated units. The dinomination of tickes include Rs 200 (players` concession), Rs 400 to Rs 500 (galleries), Rs 1,500 (special enclosure), Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 (pavillion). Tickets for the public will be sold by UCO Bank, Cuttack on Novermber 23. No one will be allowed to buy more than two tickets. Besides tickets, OCA will distribute a total of 8,340 complimentary passes for the match. ``OCA has insured the match with Oriental Insurance Company for Rs 5 crore, including Rs 1 crore for the public,`` OCA secretary indicated. He, however, denied media reports that cheer girls would be hired to add glamour to the match. ``Instead, we will use modern music system for the purpose,`` Behera clarified. The OCA secretary disclosed that the 25 seats in the corporate box have been sold to IMFA. ``IMFA has purchased these seats for 10 ODIs and the cost is Rs 20 lakh,`` he said. Speaking on security arrangement, Behera said the Police Commissionerate of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has assured full cooperation in the matter. ``Security will be extreemely tight. OCA will also engage 300 Group-4 arm security to help the Commissionerate police,`` Behera stated. Close circuit cameras will be fixed to detect trouble-makers and monitor the gates. There will be a three-tire system of checking for spectators. Every check point will be equipped with metal detectors. Security factor has assumed paramount importance considering following unsavoury Chappell incident on the eve of the India-West Indies ODI at Cuttack in January last year. A political activist slapped the then India`s Australian coach Greg Chappell when he was coming out of the airport in Bhubaneswar.
