Electing to bat, Orissa crumbled before the pace attack of Ashraf-ud-din (5/28) and Nilakantha Das (3/56). A gutsy knock of 49 by Subhrajit Sahoo and a quick-fire 34 by Partha Samal gave some respectability to the Orissa innings, which earlier tottered at 33 for five.
