Pravanjan Mullick scored an unbeaten century and compiled 143 runs for the seventh wicket with Haladhar Das to put hosts Orissa on course for victory at the end of second day of their Ranji Trophy Group-A Super League match against Punjab at the East Coast Railway ground in Bhubaneswar today.
In reply to Punjab`s meagre first innings total of 60, Orissa made 352 to gain a lead of 292 runs. The home side`s chances of registering their first victory of the season looked bright as the visitors, requiring 293 to avoid an innings defeat, finished the day at 59 for one in the second innings.
Resuming at the overnight score of 148 for five, Orissa batted with caution and confidence to take total control of the match.
Mullick justified his recall to the team by scoring the 18th first class hundred of 78-match first class career. His unconquered 100 came off 221 balls and included 11 hits to the rope.
Mullick`s century was complimented by Orissa Cricket Association, which announced a cash award of Rs 50,000 for the 32-year-old city batsman.
Stumper Haladhar Das also played an important role in Orissa`s efforts to construct a big total. He also regained his form by slamming 80 off 119 balls. Haladhar`s fluent knock was studded with 12 boundaries.
