B Nayak of Brahmani Golf Club (Talcher) surprised many seasoned campaigners to emerge overall champion in the All-Orissa Open Falcon Trophy Golf Tournament, which concluded at Bhubaneswar Golf Club (BGC) course today.
Nayak scored 70 points to win the main (0-18 handicap) event of the two-day tournament, which was organized by BGC. Ranjit Singh won the overall l best gross trophy with 80 points, while S P Patnaik (72 points) finished runner-up behind Nayak.
In the 29 to 24 handicap category, Bhupinder Singh (72) and Amarendra Dash (73) were adjudged winner and runner-up respectively. J P Panda (79) claimed the top honour in senior category, ahead of runner-up Col H S Khara (82).
Among the ladies, Lakhi Swain and Peta Lombreg tied for the top spot with 78 points each before the former was declared the winner. The prizes for nearest-to-pin and longest drive were bagged by Geeta Biswas (14 feet, 5 inches) and Rajeev Ray (249 yards) respectively.
Altogether 80 golfers, including eight ladies, vied for honours in the 18-hole strokeplay tournament. Karnataka police ADG Guru Prasad, State police DG Manamohan Praharaj and BGC president Tara Patnaik handed over the prizes at the closing function.
