It`s Railway vs Police in summit clash
05 Dec 2008

Ruthless Orissa Police will meet equally mercyless East Coast Railway in the final of the 12th Satyabrata Memorial All-Orissa Day-night Football Tournament at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Dec 7, 2008. In the semifinals on Friday, cops overcame a self goal to trounce hosts Yazdani Club-73 (4-1), while the railway side scored once in each half to eliminate defending champions Samaleswari Sporting (2-0). Orissa Police started off on disastrous note by conceding the suicidal goal in the 12th minute. The ball rolled into the post as custodian Anil Jena missed it completely while attempting a casual kick with his left foot. But after change of ends, Orissa Police went on a rampage and scored four goals through Seikh Azad, Bidur Jani, Avimanyu Pande and Niranjan Das. Earlier in the first semifinal, mercurial forward Gyana Ranjan Samal gave East Coast Railway the lead in the 38th minute, while Hemant Das scored the second goal in the 86th minute. Sasadhar Behera (Railway) and Bidur Jani (Police) were adjudged men of the matches. Former Test cricketer Shiv Sundar Das added attraction to the day`s proceedings by giving away the prizes. The day`s lucky spectator prize went to Sambhu Das, who received a colour television.
