Cuttack-A won the inter-district under-19 cricket tournament by virtue of their nine-run first innings lead against Bhubaneswar-A after the two-day final match ended in a draw at Ravenshaw University ground in Cuttack today.
With both the semifinals also ending in draw, the format of the tournament raised questions about its meaning. A section of former players felt that one innings or 90 overs per side would have been a better format.
The champion side received a cash prize of Rs 10,000, while the runners-up were given Rs 5,000.
Brief scores:
Bhubaneswar-A 189/10 in 53 overs (Anil Mohapatra 65: Manas Muduli 3/30, Satyajit Das 3/54) and 109/1 in 20 overs (Niranjan Das 68 n.o) drew with Cuttack-A 198/10 in 100.5 overs (Subhransu Samal 36: Sumitosh Praharaj 3/48).
