Cuttack defeated Balasore 2-0 in the final to lift the 53rd Sahani Cup Senior Inter-District Football Tournament at Rajendra Narayan High School ground in Rajkanika (Kendrapara district) today. Gyana Ranjan Samal scored both the goals in the first half. Earlier in the semifinals, Cuttack beat Mayurbhanj 2-1, while Balasore got the better of Angul 3-2. The apex domestic tournament of Orissa failed to live up to its reputation because of the wrong doings of the beleaguered Orissa Football Association (OFA). The tournament could find the desired media coverage as OFA left the job of providing information to be performed by the inequiped hosting bodies. No wonder that Sahani Cup is now ranked as a club or village tournament. Football lovers should ask Asirbad Behera and M A Alam for clarifications.
